The Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed a man’s body was found inside the home following a house fire in Surrey Thursday morning.

A suspect, 32-year-old Robert Jones of Surrey, has now been charged with manslaughter in connection with the man’s death.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

“While this is a positive step in the investigation, there remains much work to be done.” says Cpl. Frank Jang of IHIT.  “Based on the evidence in the early stages of the investigation, investigators believed this incident was not random.”

Surrey RCMP received a call about a fire in the home in the 12300-block of 112A Street at approximately 12:41 a.m.

Firefighters were seen leading a woman out of the yard but her connection to the home has not been confirmed at this time.
