The United Steel Workers (USW) could be walking off the job at Regina’s Evraz steel plant on Friday, September 8.
The union issued a strike notice for 6 a.m. The last shift worked will be the shift on Thursday night.
Negotiations earlier this summer indicate that the union was looking for three per cent wage increases effective August 2016 and August 2017 and a 3.5 per cent increase beginning August of next year.
According to the USW, Evraz was offering no increases for 2016 and 2017, with a one per cent increase in August 2018 and again in August 2019. Members were offered a lump sum for $1,500 at ratification.
The union was also looking for vision coverage to be increased to $500 and for prescription drug coverage to be increased to unlimited.
