Dramatic and shocking video captured by a Florida police officer’s body camera shows the near-fatal consequences of reckless driving.

On Aug. 29, deputies with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a multi-car accident in Shady Hills, Fla.

For a couple minutes, the two responding deputies tended to the victims in the middle of the rain-soaked intersection of SR 52 and Hays Street.

Then in a moment, disaster strikes once again. A pickup truck turning left is struck by an oncoming car, sending both of them careening into the scene of the existing accident – and sending both police and bystanders flying backwards.

Distracted driving causes more crashes in Ontario than intoxication, speeding: OPP

“This is an example of the dangers that our men and women face every day they put on the uniform,” the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on their Facebook page.

“However, after this impact seen in the video, one of our injured members continued to serve, making sure that another person involved in this crash received care.”

Despite the seeming severity of the impact, police say nobody was seriously injured as a result of either collision. The names and identities of the deputies, as well as the victims seen in the video, are not being released by police.

Police are hoping the video will serve as a warning to drivers to be aware of their surroundings and road conditions – doubly so when police are on the scene of an existing accident.

“We urge you to slow down, especially on wet roads and near traffic crashes,” police said. “We are thankful the injuries to our members were not serious. We are also thankful for our citizens who stepped in to help their fellow citizens.”
