Police say they received a call on Sunday just before 11:30 p.m. of a boat going around in circles on Porters Lake and said the caller stated hearing someone calling for help.

The boat was found and confirmed to be unoccupied and was taken back to shore.

Halifax Fire and Emergency and Eastern Shore Ground Search responded along with RCMP, while several local boaters also helped in searching the area. A Department of Natural Resources helicopter and RCMP Underwater Recovery Team were called in to assist in searching the area in the morning.

Halifax District RCMP was contacted at 8:13 a.m. by a person who found the body of a missing boater in the water near his home. The person located was confirmed to be the missing boater from Sunday evening.

RCMP say the cause of the incident is being investigated.
