Winnipeg man charged for sexually assaulting 6-year-old, making child porn

A 28-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested and charged with a number of child porn related offences after an extensive investigation that started in Australia.

The Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit was contacted by police in Australia about an ongoing investigation with connections to Winnipeg.

The investigation revealed that a 6-year-old boy was sexually assaulted between January and August. Police said images from the assaults were shared using an “online messaging application with various users.”

Police said an arrest in Australia was “critical to identifying a suspect.”

At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, police executed a search warrant at a home in the East Kildonan area and arrested the man and located the victim. Police said numerous electronic devices were seized.

The suspect was charged with:

  • Possession of child pornography
  • Invitation to sexual touching
  • Makes, prints, publishes or possess for the purpose of publication any child pornography
  • Imports, distributes, sells or possession for the purpose of distribution or sale any child pornography
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference

Police said the suspect and six-year-old victim are known to each other and police are not releasing the suspect’s name in order to protect the victim’s identity.
