Blackfalds RCMP are charging two men, and looking for a third, after two carjacking reports in central Alberta Thursday.

At around 1:24 p.m. Thursday afternoon, officers were called about an attempted carjacking on Range Road 283 and Highway 11A, west of Red Deer, Alta.

A green Jeep with two men inside pulled up alongside a parked vehicle with four youths in it, police said. The youths told police the men in the Jeep pulled a gun on them and demanded their vehicle. The youths fled and the Jeep chased them.

The Jeep was later found in Sylvan Lake, Alta. where RCMP in that community were already investigating reports that a woman driving a Lexus had her vehicle stolen from her at gunpoint.

A spokesperson with Blackfalds RCMP said the two investigations came together when it became apparent it was the same people involved.

Police then received a report the Lexus had been spotted in Blackfalds. In a “high-risk take down,” RCMP arrested two men.

RCMP are still looking for the Lexus, but said property from the vehicle was found in a residence in Blackfalds. The vehicle has an Alberta licence plate with the number 2NK 843.

The two men in custody are expected to be charged Friday, so police cannot release their names yet.

Police are searching for the third man, who was believed to have been driving the Lexus.

Anyone with information on the attempted and successful carjacking, or the location of the Lexus, is asked to call the Blackfalds RCMP detachment at (403) 885-3300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously by phone at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS) or online.
