Calgary election 2017: Gian-Carlo Carra wins Ward 9

Incumbent Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra was re-elected to represent Ward 9 on city council, according to unofficial election results Monday night.

Gian-Carlo Carra has represented Ward 9 for seven years after being elected in 2010. Carra’s focus as a councillor is to make the neighbourhoods in his area sustainable and filled with culture.

Trevor Buckler

On Oct. 11, Trevor Buckler told News Talk 770 he would be dropping out of the race and asking voters to support Cheryl Link.

Cheryl Link has more than 25 years of entrepreneurial experience. If elected, Link promises to end tax hikes, further engage residents and make voters feel respected.

David Metcalfe

David Metcalfe is a retiree who has lived in Calgary since 1984. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from London University. He was inspired to join the race by the issue of Midfield Trailer Park, which he thinks has been handled poorly by current council. He is also a supporter of making an arena deal.

Cesar Saavedra

Cesar Saavedra has lived in Ward 9 for almost 20 years and wants to see improvements made to neighbourhoods. As councillor, Saavedra says he would focus on updating infrastructure, making health and city services more available and promoting sports and arts programs for youth.
