A Calgary man is facing impaired driving charges after a head-on crash between an SUV and a car on Country Hills Boulevard last week that sent one woman to hospital.
Calgary EMS said they were called to the area of Country Hills Boulevard and Stoney Trail N.E. at around 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday.
When they arrived, paramedics found one woman in serious but stable condition. She was flown to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.
In a Monday news release, RCMP said a preliminary investigation suggests the driver of an SUV was travelling west “at a high rate of speed” when he attempted to pass a semi-tractor “while unsafe to do so.”
RCMP said the SUV then collided head-on with an eastbound car.
Jeffrey William Smith, 41, is charged with refusing to provide a breath sample, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
He was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200.
