The battle for ‘best brew’ was underway at the Gulfstream Restaurant in Kelowna Wednesday night.
Tree Brewing and Prohibition Brewing went head-to-head in the competition.
“The winner will be named our best brew featured on tap here at Gulfstream,” Robert Boeckner with the Four Points Sheraton said.
It’s all part of an international competition put on by Four Points by Sheraton. Six different countries are hosting the competition, with the Kelowna location representing Canada. Other locations include New York, Cancun, Melbourne, Nairobi and Barcelona. Each location pits two locally craft brewed beer against each other.

“It’s something we’re proud about,” Boeckner said. “Not just from a hotel standpoint, but as a community it’s an honour to be chosen as one of the places in the world to do this.”
A blind taste-test was used to decide the big winner.
The options: Tree Brewing’s Thirsty Beaver amber ale and Prohibition’s Bootlegger amber ale.
Guest judges came out to rate the beer based on overall flavour among other categories.
In the end, it was Prohibition’s beer that took the prize.
“We pulled it off!” Dan Allen with Prohibition Brewery said. “I’m just ecstatic with how it went.”
Kelowna was the midway mark, as the third stop of the competition. The next Best Brew Off is underway September 13 in Melbourne.
