Gun crimes on the rise in Regina

Gun crimes in the Queen City are on the rise from January to July compared to last year.

There were 74 violent incidents reported for January through July 2017 which is up 19 per cent compared to the same time period in 2016.

In July of 2017 police in Regina responded to nine firearm related offences compared to four in July of 2016.

If you are looking for good news, police have seized 25 firearms in July 2017 which is a decrease of 32 per cent over the five-year average.

In July, three firearms have been reported stolen compared to only one firearm in July 2016.

One person has been hurt by a firearm in July 2017, compared to two people injured in July 2016.

So far in 2017, 14 people have been injured by a firearm compared to 21 for the same time period in 2016.

For the first two weeks of February of this year, Regina Police Service held a gun amnesty program where 157 firearms were removed from the community.
