Halifax police say a 37-year-old Hatchet Lake, N.S., man has been released from custody with a promise to appear in court after he was arrested Friday for theft of a camper.
Police say on Friday at about 9:30 p.m. they received a report of a truck towing a camper that had backed into a pole in the 3000 block of Olivet Street in Halifax. The truck then reportedly left the area.
According to police, the camper had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
Officers spotted the vehicle in the area of Lacewood and Titus and tried to initiate a traffic stop. Police say instead of stopping, the vehicle picked up speed.
The vehicle was later spotted on Highway 103 outbound before performing a U-turn to head inbound. A spike belt was activated and the vehicle came to a stop. Police arrested the man and no injuries were reported.
He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Sept. 26 to face charges of theft, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and dangerous driving.
