The management team has deemed the store unsustainable.

“With the current tough economic climate in Calgary, Axe Music Calgary is no longer profitable,” a statement on Axe’s Facebook page reads.

“Unfortunately, we see nothing on the Calgary horizon that will fix that.”

“With heavy hearts, the decision has been made for Axe Music Inc. to cease operations of the Calgary location at end of lease.”

The economic struggles are also compounded by the general manager of the store recently being diagnosed with cancer. According to the statement released on Facebook, this has further complicated any ability to keep the store open, as he is a significant contributor to store operations.

“This is a sad day for all of us!!! No one plans to fail…

“…but we have simply exhausted our ability to make Calgary viable in today’s economy and unfortunately… we must call it a day,” the statement continues.

Axe has committed to keeping its Edmonton store and online store open with what its Facebook statement called a “current healthy format.”

“Thank you for the many years of support, it has always been, and remains, ‘AXEpreciated’ and we’re there to take care of all of you with the guaranteed lowest prices in the land till May 31, [2018]!!!”
