The Okanagan Indian Band has lifted its last evacuation order related to this year’s flood.
The band rescinded the order for lots 17 to 25 on Louis Estates Road on Tuesday. It had been in effect for almost two months.
The band’s reserve at the north end of Okanagan Lake was particularly hard hit by flooding. At one point over 200 properties were evacuated.
The flood waters have receded but the cleanup continues.
“Debris management and sandbag removal is ongoing. Generally the crews are working from the south to the north end along Westside Road. There are over 400,000 sandbags, so it will take some time to complete the work,” said band spokesperson Shaylen Smith in a written statement earlier this week.
“If residents want to remove sandbags from the beach they can pile them at the top of their access roads for pickup by our crews.”
Smith suggests residents also call the emergency operations centre to notify crews their sandbags are ready for pickup.
