Police were called to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. following reports that a man had gone missing near the falls.

“Witnesses on scene report that the male was taking photographs when he fell in,” RCMP said Sunday.

Emergency crews spent Sunday morning attempting to retrieve the man’s body, but RCMP said water conditions are too dangerous, making the recovery effort difficult.

Friends have identified the man as Abdul Quadir Mohammed, 33, of Calgary.

They say he was married, father of a two-month-old boy and worked as a contractor with WestJet.

Police are reminding the public to be aware of safety barriers.
