CALGARY- It has been nearly three weeks since the tragedy that saw a Calgary woman hit by two vehicles while on her way to work. Despite a major effort by the community and police, one of those drivers still has not been caught.

On February 21, 56-year-old ‘Rachel’ Wong Shuk Yee was struck and killed in the community of Sandstone, in northwest Calgary. One of the drivers turned himself in to police later that day, but the second driver remains at large.

Officers canvassed the neighbourhood and say they are following up on a number of tips, but have a warning for whoever is responsible.

“The longer that you take to come forward and help us with this inquiry, you have to look at the bad side of things,” says Sgt. Colin Foster of the Calgary Police Service. “You know this information, you know what happened, come and talk to us.”

The victim’s family is finding it impossible to come to terms with Rachel’s death, because of the unanswered questions.

“Please let us know what happened, this is all I want,” begs Flora Stephenson, Rachel’s niece. “It’s difficult. I’m at work and I think about it, doing day to day things I think about it. I’m in the car and I think about it.”

Police say they only have three unsolved hit and run cases since 1996, and assure the family they’re not giving up on Rachel’s case.

“We’d like to think that they would have the courage to step forward and at least tell us their version of what happened,” Foster says. “We don’t give up on these investigations.”

Police are searching for a small, dark-coloured sedan in connection with the case. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
