Fire crews are busy battling a blaze in Winnipeg’s Centennial area Tuesday morning.

Dark smoke was seen billowing from the area near King Street between Higgins Avenue and Henry Avenue just after 9:40 a.m.

Traffic traveling northbound on King Street is being redirected to Logan Avenue.

A section of westbound Higgins Avenue is blocked off.

Witnesses told Global News it was a makeshift home made up of tarps and shopping carts that was on fire behind the Sun Wah Supermarket.

The supermarket suffered smoke damage and the back wall of the building was damaged from the fire.

Fire officials on scene said the arson unit is investigating the blaze.

Police are on scene.
