Singer Katy Perry live-streamed herself all weekend, beginning on Friday. She was filming her life for anyone with an internet connection to see.

She’s been doing yoga, hosting dinner parties, sleeping, applying makeup and singing, of course.

Here’s 7 things to take away from Perry’s 72-hour live stream.

1. Therapy for the world to see

Perry opened up about having suicidal thoughts during the marathon weekend live stream event.

“I feel ashamed that I would have those thoughts, feel that low, and that depressed,” she said Saturday on YouTube during a tearful session with Dr. Siri Singh from the Viceland series The Therapist.

Perry told Singh she struggles with her public persona. In the past, she said, she has had suicidal thoughts. She talked about the challenge of being her authentic self while promoting her public image as she lives “under this crazy microscope.”

“I’m a bit more nerdy than everybody thinks I am,” Perry admitted. “I’m a big goofball. The fantasy of Katheryn went into Katy and made this bigger-than-life personality.”

With tears running down her face, Perry opened up about her past battles with alcohol, admitting that she had struggled with thoughts of suicide in the past.

She also discussed how her “rigid” childhood within her highly religious family didn’t allow her to question things or explore the world in the way she wanted to.

2. Why she cut her hair

Perry’s new pixie hair cut has gained a lot of attention. She related the hair cut to her grappling with her two identities, Katheryn Hudson and Katy Perry.

“People talk about my hair or they wish it were longer, and like, I so badly want to be Katheryn Hudson that I don’t even want to look like Katy Perry anymore sometimes,” she told Singh during the therapy session. “And that is a little bit why I cut my hair, because I really want to be my authentic self, like 100 per cent. So it hurts when I don’t feel like I can.”

3. Katy Perry wants to end the Taylor Swift feud

Perry fans were able to see her confess some painful things about herself and also extend an olive branch to Taylor Swift.

The rivalry between the two pop stars was revealed in 2014 over a conflict with their tour backup dancers but Perry is ready to let that go.

During a chat with Ariana Huffington on her podcast on June 10, Perry said, “I forgive her and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her. I think it’s actually like, I think it’s time. There are bigger fish to fry, and there are real problems in the world. You know what I’m saying?”

“I love her, and I want the best for her,” she continued during The Thrive Global Podcast. “And I think she’s a fantastic songwriter, and I think that if we, both, her and I, can be representatives of strong women that come together despite their differences, I think the whole world is going to go like, ‘Yeah, well we can do this.’ I don’t know. Maybe I don’t agree with everything she does and she doesn’t agree with everything I do, but I just really, truly want to come together in a place of love and forgiveness and understanding and compassion.”

Perry followed up the apology by singing the song Let It Go from Disney’s movie Frozen. “There’s a lot of other things out there in the world that people need to be focused on,” Perry said. “God bless her on her journey. God bless her. Honestly.”

Swift has not commented on the apology.

In May, Perry stopped by the SiriusXM studios to promote her new album and revealed that she was ready to make amends with Swift.

“By the way, I am ready, because I think when women unite, the world is going to heal,” she said. “I don’t have any beef really with anyone. I love everyone, and honestly I love everyone and I think we need to unite more than ever. I think we see that today especially, like we need to come together and love on each other today. Don’t matter where you come from, don’t matter what you believe, don’t matter which music you like the most, we are the same and we need to be unified.”

Most recently, Perry released her new album at midnight on June 9 but Swift’s entire music catalogue was re-released on Spotify on the same day. This ended an almost three-year absence of Swift’s music on the streaming service, after she prevented her music from being streamed on Spotify.

Swift and Perry, once friendly, began to admit a growing confrontation that reportedly started over touring back up dancers around 2012-2013.

Three of Perry’s California Dreams world tour dancers received a place on Swift’s 2012 world touring for her Red album.

One dancer, Lockhart Brownlie, claimed that during the tour with Swift, Perry’s people reached out to see if he and two other dancers would perform on the world tour for Perry’s Prism released in 2013. The dancers would have to leave Swift’s tour before its completion to join Perry’s. All three dancers agreed to these terms.

“Obviously we were with Katy for two-and-a-half years, she’s like family to us. So we were, like, ‘Absolutely.’ We weren’t really dancing in Taylor’s tour anyway, so I had got a little bored and I really wanted to do a promo tour,” Lockhart exclaimed to the Australian daily newspaper The Examiner.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2014, Swift coyly let the public know that her song Bad Blood was about another woman in the music industry.

Perry fired back with a tweet in 2014 that read: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”

4. She can cook

During Cooking With Gordon Ramsay,  she joined the celebrity chef in the kitchen and he attempted to teach her how to make some meatballs.

She said things like “I’m a pop star! You’re a chef. Stay in your lane” and “You can call my meatballs bland but you don’t call my music bland.”

“Never,” Ramsay said.

Perry said on the live stream that she is good at making sandwiches and that her past lovers have said she could open a sandwich shop.

5. Ranking her former lovers

When James Corden stopped by Witness World Wide headquarters, they played a special version of his Late Late Night show segment “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.”

The game involves the pair asking each other questions they usually wouldn’t answer. If they choose not to answer they would have to eat whatever is in front of them. Options included scorpions, bird saliva, pickled pigs feet, tongue and a soy sauce mixed with mayo shot.

Corden asked Perry to rank from worst to best in the bedroom. He gave her the options of three of her exes: DJ/producer Diplo, actor Orlando Bloom and singer John Mayer.

6. She discussed cultural appropriation

Perry sat down for an hour-long chat with Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson to discuss her troubled history with cultural appropriation. It aired on his podcast, Pod Save The People.

Throughout the discussion, Perry admitted that she’s “made several mistakes” and called out her music video This Is How We Do, in which she wears braids and eats watermelon. She also called out her 2013 American Music Awards performance, in which she dressed like a geisha.

Perry also confessed that she didn’t realize she’d hurt people through cultural appropriation on her own and credits conversations with people like her “empowered angel Cleo for opening her eyes.”

“I listened, and I heard, and I didn’t know,” she told McKesson. “And I won’t ever understand some of those things because of who I am. I will never understand, but I can educate myself, and that’s what I’m trying to do along the way…I didn’t know that I did it wrong until I heard people saying I did it wrong. And, sometimes that’s what it takes. It takes someone to say, out of compassion and out of love, ‘Hey, this is what the origin is.”

7. Did it help Witness on the music charts?

The YouTube event is a promotion for her new album Witness. The live stream will culminate in a free concert Monday in Los Angeles for 1,000 fans.

Perry’s Witness album is on course for a number one debut on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Billboard and industry forecasters.

If Witness bows at number one, it will grant Perry her third chart-topper, following PRISM (2013) and Teenage Dream (2010).

Witness currently sits at number seven on Apple Music’s Top Albums list.

Apple Music’s Top Songs list currently sees, Swish Swish featuring Nicki Minaj sitting at number 38, Roulette sitting at number 147, and Bon Appétit featuring Migos sitting at number 173.
