WINNIPEG — Just 48 hours after finalizing their opening day roster the Winnipeg Goldeyes made a trio of moves on Thursday.
Just prior to starting their 24th season Goldeyes manager Rick Forney signed a player, traded a player and released another.
The club announced the signing of utility player Mason Katz. The 26-year-old played in the St. Louis Cardinals organization last season, hitting a combined .279 with three home runs and nine RBI in just 19 games with the Springfield Cardinals and the Palm Beach Cardinals. St. Louis selected him in the fourth round in 2013. He can play multiple positions including catcher.

The Goldeyes also sent outfielder Devan Ahart to the Frontier League’s Southern Illinois Minors in a trade for a player to be named later. Ahart was set to enter his first season with the Fish.
The club also announced that catcher Conor Sullivan was placed on waivers and has already cleared, making him a free agent. He was also new to the Goldeyes after playing for the Joplin Blasters last season.
The three transactions leave the Goldeyes with 22 players, one short of the league maximum.
The Goldeyes kick off the season later on Thursday against the Cleburne Railroaders.
