A 30-year-old North Middlesex woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash Wednesday north of the city involving an SUV and a crane.

Middlesex OPP are investigating the collision, which happened just after 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Denfield Road and Elginfield Road. Police said a crane travelling westbound on Elginfield Road struck an eastbound SUV that was making a left turn onto Denfield.

OPP Sgt. Dave Rektor said the female driver of the SUV was killed in the crash. Police have identified the deceased as Kathryn Kane, 30, of North Middlesex.

The driver of the crane, a 42-year-old man, was not injured, police said.

“It’s a tragic incident,” Rektor told AM980. “Not a great start to our long holiday weekend — which is upon us very shortly. [It’s] a stark reminder to all motorists who need to pay attention when driving.”
