Calgary police have laid charges against a 27-year-old man accused of sexually abusing three underage girls.
The charges come after the family of a 14-year-old girl approached police in December. They said the girl had been meeting with a man in his late 20s and driving around with him.
Police said although investigators spoke with the girl, she didn’t “disclose any criminal offences.”
An investigation was launched, and investigators learned that a suspect matching the man’s description had been in contact with other girls around the same age.
Police allege the suspect was meeting the girls online using the screen names “Josh” and “Brandon.”
In April, a 13-year-old girl told police that a man had asked her for sexual favours. They were later able to identify two other victims.
“There were several different social media apps that he was using to engage these girls in conversation,” Staff Sgt. Melanie Oncescu said in a Wednesday news conference.
“Any parent needs to be mindful of what social media sites their children are accessing. They should know their passwords to their devices so they can check on them, and have really good conversations about Internet safety with their kids.”
“We can’t tell kids to stay off the Internet these days … but they need to be mindful of the risks of engaging in conversations with strangers online.”
Police allege the suspect was pretending to be younger than his real age.

Oncescu said as the investigation is ongoing, they aren’t sure if there are any other potential victims.
“There always is that possibility,” she said.
Christian Allen Sarile, of Calgary, is charged with three counts each of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault and obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18 years of age.
Accused graduated with an education degree
Global News has learned Sarile was a musician, and had been pursuing an education degree at the University of Lethbridge. A spokesperson from the school told Global News Sarile graduated in June 2016.
In his resume, posted online, Sarile described himself as a “Musician. Educator. Student.”
His resume says he had completed his practicum at Connect Charter School, teaching students in Grades 4 to 9.
As part of his practicum, Sarile’s resume says he supervised and organized an overnight “band camp” at Camp Chestermere, where it was his responsibility to “organize the chaperones, adult-to-student ratio, dietary restrictions, health risks and various legalities to ensure the safety of the students.”
The resume also states he directed students in Grades 1, 2 and 4 in a winter concert as part of another of his practicums in Stirling, Alta.
According to court documents, there are several conditions placed on Sarile’s bail, including that he can’t own a computer or cellphone that could connect to the Internet.
Other conditions include:
- Not allowed to have contact with boys or girls under the age of 18
- Not allowed to buy, possess or consume any alcohol or drugs not prescribed by a doctor or dentist
- Banned from entering any place where the main business is alcohol sales, such as liquor stores, wine shops or bars
- Prohibited from being in the presence of, at any time or any place, a male or female under the age of 19
- Prohibited from attending any place where a person under the age of 18 could reasonably be present, such as a pool, park, daycare, playground or recreation or community centre
- Prohibited from participating in any organization, voluntary or employment-related, where children under 18 can expect to be present
Sarile is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
