An explosive device, believed to be a grenade, was dropped off at the Airdrie RCMP detachment Friday afternoon.
According to police, it was brought to the detachment at about 2:30 p.m. by a citizen who wasn’t sure what to do with the device.
Police said he left it in the passenger side of his SUV.
As a result, the detachment was evacuated, the building was cordoned off with police tape, and the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit in Edmonton was immediately contacted.

Officers in the unit will take steps to properly dispose of the device once they arrive.
In the meantime, the public is being asked to stay away from the detachment until further notice.
The man who brought it in said a great aunt told him about the device after she found it in her residence.
