A Kelowna man is making waves about illegal docks and fences along the Kelowna shores of Okanagan Lake.
“It’s virtually impossible to walk along the shoreline of Okanagan Lake in Kelowna,” Al Janusas said.
Because there are docks in the way — lots of them.

“The other big problem is illegal fences that people have erected into the water which are clearly illegal but the province is neglecting to enforce those rules,” Janusas said.

Janusas said it’s the provincial government’s responsibility to enforce the rules. Kelowna MLA Steve Thomson says the government is looking into it.

“The ministry’s natural resource officers are in the process of conducting inspections in the Okanagan Lake area. They have issued Trespass Notices for those who are in non-compliance of the Land Act,” Thomson said in a written statement.

Meantime, Janusas said he’s going to make a point of pressuring the province into putting their words into action. He wants to the province hire more natural resource officers to crack down on those putting up the illegal obstacles along the shoreline.

“I think it would be possible to pay for these natural resource officers by increasing the fines for infractions for what we see all around us here,” he said.
