Toronto Police said officers responded to a call at 2:55 a.m. about a two-vehicle collision on York Mills Road near Yonge Street.

Police said a vehicle was travelling eastbound on York Mills when it struck a hydro pole and then collided with a taxi cab.

The driver of the taxi suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a trauma centre, where he later died, according to police.

The driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year old man, was sent to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police said no charges have been laid at this time.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook told Global News, “the traffic reconstruction team recently left the scene and will be able to tell us exactly what the circumstances were that led to this [incident].”

Kristine Hubbard, operations manager of Beck Taxi Limited, released a statement on behalf of the company.
