A five vehicle accident closed Highway 1 near Revelstoke early Tuesday morning.
RCMP say the collision occurred at around 1 a.m. approximately one kilometer west of Revelstoke.
They say the incident initially involved a westbound semi which collided with an eastbound semi.
Police say two more semis and a passenger vehicle hit the two semis that created the incident — resulting in a five vehicle pile-up.
Three people were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Some of the cargo from the semis spilled onto the roadway but police say there are no hazardous materials.
As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the highway remained closed.
