Trial starts for foster mother accused in toddler’s death

SASKATOON – The trial for a foster mother accused of criminal negligence causing death is underway in Saskatoon.

Eunice Wudrich, 47, is accused in the death of 22-month-old Evander Daniels, who drowned in a bathtub at the foster home near Aberdeen in June 2010.

She has pleaded not guilty.

Wudrich’s lawyer said it was a tragic and horrible accident, but that no crime was committed.

Chris Martell, Daniels’ father, said his son’s body was covered in burns and questions the cause of death.

Wudrich has elected to be tried by judge only at Court of Queen’s Bench.

The trial is expected to last all week.
