A Richmond Costco store was quickly evacuated last evening after a refrigeration unit started leaking harmful chemicals.
It happened at the store’s Great Canadian Way and Bridgeport Road location.

About 500 people were forced out of the building after an employee discovered the leak.
Firefighters say “freon” was being emitted into the atmosphere, a potentially-toxic chemical to those with heart conditions.
No illnesses have been reported and repairs are underway.
