TORONTO – Ontario students heading back to class today are facing more uncertainty as the labour dispute between public school teachers and the government deepens.
Many teachers are angry that the governing Liberals have imposed new contracts on them, which cut their benefits and froze most of their wages.
Some say they have no plans to resume extracurricular activities, even though Premier Dalton McGuinty has asked them to restore them.

High school teacher Helen Lockhart says she wants the next premier to rip up the contracts and re-start negotiations for new ones.
She says she doesn’t plan to go back to running her extracurricular music groups until then.
But the contenders vying for McGuinty’s job are divided on how to deal with the dispute.
Gerard Kennedy is the only candidate who says he’d scrap the contracts and start fresh.
Five others say they wouldn’t go that far, but want to talk to the unions to find a solution.
