Surrey man arrested for slashing almost 500 SkyTrain seats

A Surrey man has been arrested and charged for slashing 480 SkyTrain seats from August to November of this year.

Transit Police said the seats were cut by someone using a box cutter, and the repair cost is estimated to be over $45,000.

The investigation required members of the Transit Police Crime Reduction Unit.

Terald Nicholas Gorecki, 63, has been charged. Gorecki was employed as a contract maintenance worker for SkyTrain, which provided him with ready access to the cars. He is previously known to police.

Gorecki has been charged with the indictable offence of Mischief over $5000 and released on an undertaking with the following conditions:

Not to be found on any SkyTrain or B.C. Transit property

Not to possess any knives or sharp instruments except for the preparation and consumption of food while in residence

Not to possess any tools outside place of employment.

He will make his next court appearance in February 2013.
