The New Year will bring another red light camera to Lethbridge’s major intersections.
Three more high volume traffic area will be monitored throughout the city. There will be six locations where motorists need to be extra vigilant.
Lethbridge Regional Police are hoping motorists will make slowing down part of their New Year’s resolution.
The new locations will be:
10th Avenue and Mayor Magrath Drive South
32nd Avenue and Mayor Magrath Drive South
43rd Street and Crowsnest Trail

The first red light cameras were implemented back in 2010. Since then police say 390 people have received tickets for red light violations and a shocking 20,000 motorists have received speeding tickets.
“One of the most significant ones is Highway 3 and 43rd Sstreet,” says Inspector Bill Kaye with Lethbridge Regional Police. “We know it’s a high speed zone coming into the city and when we have collisions they are bad. We hope this helps.”
Police hope to have the new locations in operation by mid-January and will issue warning letters to violators for a one month period.
Police say the cameras are for your safety and not a cash cow.
“The cameras installed in 2010 have reduced collisions at the intersections by 30 per cent,” Kaye says.
