Suspected carbon monoxide leak sends 12 Saskatoon students to hospital

SASKATOON – M.D. Ambulance says 12 students at a Saskatoon high school were taken to hospital just before noon after a possible carbon monoxide leak. 

Emergency crews were alerted to the possible CO leak after several students at St. Joseph’s reported being sick. 

The school was evacuated by the time crews arrived.

Paramedics assessed 58 students and three were taken by ambulance to Royal University Hospital. 

The special operations unit took another 5 students to City Hospital and four to St. Paul’s Hospital. 

All are reported to be in stable condition. 

The school was checked by firefighters, with the highest level recorded by monitors being 5ppm. 

A separate detector was used on the students to measure the level of CO a person has, with the majority having a low to normal reading.
