No serious injuries in ceiling collapse at north end Superstore

There were some scary moments for workers and shoppers at a north Edmonton Superstore Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the store located at 127th Street and 137th Avenue after receiving a call of a possible ceiling collapse.

Officials say a suspended ceiling collapsed near the deli inside the building, briefly trapping three people. They were able to free themselves, and one person was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Crews swept the building to ensure nobody else was trapped. Officials say the situation could have been a lot worse.

“They were lucky that there was a void space created when the ceiling dropped. There was a void space between the deli cabinet itself and the ovens in the back,: said Darcy Sperling with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
