SASKATOON – It’s the start of a new day for St. Mary’s School.
A grand opening was held today in Saskatoon for the new $18.9 million school designed to hold 375 children.
“We are proud to open the doors of the St. Mary’s Wellness and Education Centre as we continue our tradition of providing Catholic education to families and children in Pleasant Hill,” said Diane Boyko, chair of the greater Saskatoon school division board.

Besides traditional education and instructional spaces, the school boasts a health and wellness centre that includes a medical clinic.
There is also an upper level walking track, an enhanced wellness and gym facility and a unique community room with separate ventilation for cultural, First Nation and Métis specific events and activities.
Those were made possible with donations from PotashCorp, Cameco, SaskTel and the city of Saskatoon.
“We have established many strong partnerships that help us more fully address the spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical development of the students at St. Mary’s,” said Boyko.
“In this innovative new school, those partnerships will continue to flourish, as will our children.”
The old St. Mary’s school, built 100 years ago, was demolished over the summer despite some public opposition.
