The 44-year-old man, who had tuberculosis and the virus that causes AIDS, was taken to a police cell but encountered breathing problems and was returned to hospital where he died soon after.

Ballantyne’s wife, Cynthia, says her husband had initially gone to the hospital for treatment of pain in his shoulder and had not been drinking beforehand.

She also says the death has been very hard on her children, who can’t understand why their father is not coming home.
