An eight-floor public housing complex at the corner of Émile-Journault Avenue and Papineau Avenue in Ahuntsic-Cartierville was damaged by a fire early Tuesday morning.
A 76-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering second degree burns to his back and arms. He also had major difficulties breathing and is in serious condition. Another person was treated at the scene, according to Stéphane Smith, spokesperson with Urgences-santé.

The cause of the fire is being deemed electrical, according to Michel Girard, operations chief at the Montreal fire department.
Damages are approximately $50,000.
