A new single-day natural gas use record was set in Saskatchewan last week due to the extreme cold temperatures.
With the thermometer in the -20s and -30s throughout the province, SaskEnergy said it delivered 1.33 petajoules of natural gas to customers on Friday as people turned up the heat to stay warm.

That broke the old record set in January by three per cent.
A petajoule is unit of measurement equivalent to one million gigajoules. The average home in Saskatchewan uses 105 gigajoules of natural gas yearly.
This is the fourth consecutive winter a natural gas consumption record has been set.

Officials said seven of the top 10 peak load or near record-setting days have happened within the last two weeks.
