City
staff have been directed to study ways to reduce the use of single-use plastic
bags in the city and report to council next June.
A new
motion to ban plastic bags could be brought forward at that time.
Toronto’s proposed bag ban came under fire from Mayor Rob Ford and his allies as
well as industry groups – the Canadian Plastic Bag Association and the Ontario
Convenience Stores Association – that filed legal challenges.
