The search for a missing kayaker who fell in the waters off the east coast of Vancouver Island late Saturday night has come to an end.
Search crews recovered the man’s body near Union Bay in Comox Valley on Sunday afternoon.
Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue says two young men launched their kayaks from Union Bay with a plan to paddle to the nearby Tree Island on the northern tip of Denman Island around 11 p.m. Saturday night.

The men capsized and ended up in the water and one of the two made it to shore to signal an alarm for help.
The coast guard and rescue teams searched throughout the night and day but could not locate the missing man.
The search was then handed over to the RCMP who were going to send in dive teams.
Search manager Paul Berry said the kayaker who made it to shore was treated for hypothermia and has been released from hospital.
That person was wearing a life jacket but the other kayaker who did not survive was not.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said the man was last seen clinging to a buoy.
