A Vernon family is getting the gift of mobility this Christmas. It’s the ninth year that local businesses have donated a vehicle to a deserving Okanagan family.
The Redlick family was given the keys to a 2005 station wagon Thursday morning after Lindsay Redlick wrote in to nominate her parents. The family was chosen from among a slew of other applicants to receive the vehicle because of Lindsay’s handwritten note.
The early Christmas gift brought tears of joy to Lindsay’s eyes.
“I’m so happy for all of our family to get a new vehicle,” she said through tears.
The gift is especially impactful for the Redlick family because they don’t have a reliable vehicle. Lindsay’s father Robert Redlick said the families previous vehicles kept breaking down.
The Redlicks are living with mobility challenges so having a car they can count on will make life that much easier. Robert said both he and his wife find walking difficult because of medical issues.
Robert said his daughter’s nomination came as big surprise.
“I’m proud of her,” he said.
Robert’s birthday is in just two days so this car makes a special gift for the family in more ways than one.
