Saint-Henri residents had ‘no choice’ but be ticketed for parking during snow removal

Residents in Saint-Henri are upset because they say they were unfairly ticketed during snow removal operations on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, the legal side was being plowed. They had a sign saying you couldn’t park from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” said resident Martin Grezak.

“We went to the other side of the street out of necessity.”

He argued the parking dilemma left him stuck between a rock and a hard place.

“We had no choice but to be on this side, as all the other streets were full or were being plowed themselves,” said Grezak.

He pointed out tickets were placed on about 30 cars in the neighbourhood.

The residents are going to contest their tickets.

“The city says this area is tough for parking,” Grezak told Global News.

“These condos don’t have the infrastructure needed to support it. It’s been a long-standing issue.”

The Sud-Ouest borough does provide additional parking during snow removal at the Gadbois Centre, but it’s only available for overnight parking.

Mayor Benoit Dorais and councillor Craig Sauvé were both unavailable for an interview Wednesday.

At $53 per ticket, residents on Saint-Ambroise Street said they hope they won’t be left out in the cold.
