Winnipeg fire crews battle blaze at apartment complex

Fire crews responded to Mountain Avenue after a fire started in the three storey apartment complex. Walther Bernal / Global News

WINNIPEG — Fire crews were kept busy late Tuesday afternoon after calls came in about a fire on Mountain Avenue.

Emergency crews responded to the building at 363 Mountain Ave. at 4:45 p.m. When crews arrived flames could be seen coming out of the second floor window of the three storey building.

Platoon Chief Morris Semkowski said all occupants safely escaped the building and no injuries were reported. All those who were evacuated were given shelter in a transit bus.

Most of the damage was confined to one suite but smoke damage spread to much of the building.

Semkowski said there are a couple of cats that have gone missing since the fire started.

The cause of the fire is unknown as well as the cost of the damages.
