Edmonton’s Melisizwe Brothers return home after appearance on ‘Ellen’

Three Edmonton boys have returned home from a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles, where they appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week.

The Melisizwe Brothers – Zacary James, 9, Seth James, 10, and Marc James, 13 – appeared on Friday’s Ellen show, where they sang “I’ll Be There” by The Jackson 5.

The boys were contacted by the talk show after a video of them singing “I’ll Be There” went viral on Facebook.

Since then, the brothers have skyrocketed to fame.

“Thanks to our fans sending some stuff out to Ellen, Ellen caught view of us and we had the opportunity to actually meet her and it was really great,” Marc said Tuesday after a performance at Edmonton’s 92.5 Fresh Radio.

“It was an amazing experience and we’re really thankful to our fans and Ellen for inviting us on her show.”

The brothers have been playing and singing together for about five years and say they’re having a great time.

“Yeah, we’re having fun,” Zacary said.

With a background in classical music, the boys also have a passion for Motown, studying music by Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

The boys got their start taking classes at the Leduc School of Music. Their dad said Friday’s talk show debut was an emotional experience and definitely a career highlight.

“It was pretty exciting for us and emotional at the same time because we know the work that they’ve put in and it was really emotional to see them reach this point in their musical career,” Mark James, the boys’ dad, said.

“Zacary was in tears after it was all done so it was a very special occasion for them.”

Watch below: A talented young band of brothers from Edmonton has already seen several of their music videos go viral and on Friday, they got to perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Their dad says it was an emotional experience for his family.

And the future only seems to be getting brighter for the brothers.

“In January we’re going to be doing some recordings and in February we’re going to be doing some charities in Toronto,” Seth said.
