WINNIPEG — After Tuesday’s snowfall, many of Winnipeg’s residential streets and sidewalks haven’t been cleared yet. Drivers are concerned that once temperatures dip below -15C over the weekend, ruts will form on the road.
“Anybody with a truck will be fine but anyone with a car, they’re going to damage it and once it freezes it’s going to be terrible,” Alex Kezler, East Kildonan resident said.

Kezler recalled back in 2014 after a heavy snowfall and a sudden freeze, how dangerous his street was.
“You could be driving down the street and because of the ruts it can throw you right out and you can spin around on the street, I’ve seen it.”
The city said they’re not concerned about a temperature drop causing ruts.

“In this case we had a very warm surface, and then we had snow and then we are getting warming temperatures so underneath everything is warm and right now things are peeling up really nice on the roadways,” Jim Berezowsky, the city’s manager of streets said.
Berezowsky said the city has all of their available plows out on the roads, with operations starting at 7 a.m. and priority one roads getting plowed first.
