Police in Saanich need help identifying a driver who has allegedly struck and killed two dogs in a hit-and-run last Friday.
It happened at the intersection of Interurban and Grange Road around 7 a.m. on Dec.2.
Police say a man was walking his two dogs when he went to cross the street at Interurban Road. The man stopped at a marked crosswalk, and as he was stepping out with his dogs, a vehicle went through the crosswalk hitting both of his dogs.
After the dogs were struck, police say the driver briefly stopped, asked the dog owner if he was okay and then immediately left the scene.
The dog owner then had to take both of his injured dogs home. Once home, his first dog, a Border Collie, died of her injuries. The second dog, a Belgium Shepherd, was transported to a veterinarian clinic, where she later died of her injuries too.
Investigators say the owner had both of his dogs leashed, had a light on himself and had even put lights on his dogs.
The driver is described as a white man in his early twenties with blonde hair. He was driving a newer, blue two-door sedan. Police say there could be some damage to the front of his vehicle.
