Fire in Kirkland home causes over $100,000 in damage

Smoke filled the night sky in Kirkland as dozens of firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze that gutted a two-storey home located at 90 Daudelin Street shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

“We made sure it wasn’t us and we checked outside to see what was going on and the house was on fire.”

The house was being renovated at the time of the blaze and damage is estimated at more than $100,000.

“There are any number of reasons why a fire could start due to renovations,” explained Danny Ciavaglia, with the Montreal Fire Department.

“That’s why investigators are on scene, trying to figure out the cause.”

One firefighter had to be treated for smoke inhalation, according to Martin Guilbault, chief of operations at the Montreal Fire Department.

The fire department hasn’t ruled out foul play.

Nobody was living in the house at the time.
