Government modernizing provincial liquor regulations

REGINA – The government is modernizing liquor rules in Saskatchewan.

Over 70 regulations are being changed to reduce red tape and create new opportunities and flexibilities for businesses.

One change will allow restaurants to offer customers a bring your own wine service, which will be restricted to commercially produced wines.

Other changes will allow spas and salons to obtain a permit to sell alcohol to customers purchasing a spa or salon service, allow movie theatres to sell and serve alcohol in age-restricted areas and extend eligibility for off-sale locations to all restaurants and taverns.

Alcohol will also be allowed at strip-tease performances and wet clothing contests in adult-only establishments, but full frontal-nudity remains banned.

“Saskatchewan has many liquor regulations that haven’t undergone a comprehensive review for decades,” said Donna Harpauer, the minister responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

“Our government is pleased to make these changes today and remains committed to reviewing regulations on an ongoing basis.”

The government will introduce amendments this fall and expects the legislation to pass next spring along with the regulatory changes.
