Edmonton police issued a warning to the public Friday afternoon following the release of a sex offender they consider to be “violent and sexually violent” and who will be living in Alberta’s capital.

Police said 31-year-old Leon Halkett has victimized random women in addition to women he has been in relationships with.

The Edmonton Police Service said it is seeking a recognizance order on Halkett and added he will be closely monitored by its Behavioral Assessment Unit.

Police added they were “issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns” because they believe it is in the public’s interest to be aware of Halkett’s release.
