Landslide shuts down Trans-Canada Highway in eastern Newfoundland

CLARENVILLE, N.L. – Officials say the Trans-Canada Highway in eastern Newfoundland will not reopen until work can be done to fix a rock wall after a landslide on Saturday.

The province’s Department of Transportation and Works says blasting is required to ensure the stability of the rock wall.

A landslide in the Northwest Brook area east of Clarenville forced the closure of the highway.

RCMP say officials were clearing rocks and debris away on Sunday.

Traffic has been rerouted through Ivany’s Cove.

Clarenville is about 190 kilometres northwest of St. John’s, N.L.
