TORONTO – Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s $220-million dollar expansion, which opens to the public Friday, will provide shoppers with an updated dose of ritzy glamour, as well as six new brands making their Canadian debut.
The high-end mall, located in west Toronto, added 145,000 square feet of space, more than 800 additional parking spots and 27 new stores.
The addition features first-to-market retailers with high-end stores including Microsoft, Tesla Motors, Ted Baker London, Kate Spade New York and LOFT. Designer boutique Ann Taylor will also opened their second Canadian store.

“Our goal is to provide shoppers with the most desirable retail options possible,” said Yorkdale General Manager Anthony Casalanguida in a press release.
“We’ve accomplished that in less than two years and with an impressive roster of new and interesting brands. Yorkdale is already one of Canada’s most successful shopping centers. Today’s opening is just reinforcing our position as the country’s leading shopping destination.”
Yorkdale has been the first to launch many brands in Canada, including the Apple retail store and UK fashion retailer Topshop.
One of the most anticipated arrivals of the new addition is the Microsoft store – due largely in part to the close proximity to rival Apple – as the store represents Microsoft’s first brick and mortar store in Canada and the technology giant’s first international destination.
Some of Yorkdale’s most popular shopping destinations received facelifts as part of the expansion, including the Apple store, Lululemon, Club Monaco, Hugo Boss and even Starbucks.
Luxury retailer Holt Renfrew will also open a flagship store within the expansion in 2013.
In celebration of the launch of the expansion Yorkdale will play host to Canadian celebrities such as hockey star Wayne Gretzky and some retailers will provide special offers throughout the opening weekend.
