Crown asks for prison time for Jacques Corriveau, ex-Liberal organizer convicted of fraud

The Crown is seeking a prison sentence for former federal Liberal organizer Jacques Corriveau.

A jury found the ex-Liberal party organizer guilty this month on three fraud-related charges connected to the sponsorship scandal.

Crown prosecutor Jacques Dagenais said Corriveau should serve a sentence between 3 and 5 years in prison.

Dagenais told the court Monday that Corriveau’s age and alleged poor health shouldn’t prevent him from serving a significant sentence in prison.

Corriveau, 83, was charged with fraud against the government, forgery and laundering the proceeds of crime between 1997 and 2003.

The Crown alleges Corriveau pocketed over $6.5 million through fraudulent contracts awarded to raise the profile of Canada in Quebec after the 1995 referendum.
