Police were called to 225 Bamburgh Circle in Scarborough at around 5:54 p.m. Friday for a possible drowning.
When they arrived on scene they found workers performing CPR on the unconscious male child, who was pulled from an indoor pool in a residential apartment complex.
Paramedics later arrived and continued CPR.
The child was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead. Police confirm the cause was drowning and say the eight-year-old male was not a resident of the building.
Investigators say family members were in the area at the time. The investigation is ongoing.
